2020 – Silver Fox – Looking after our Environment, our Planet, our World
It’s very fashionable these days to talk about the environment and corporate responsibility, especially at Davos 2020. All this talk and some would argue, hot air, undoubtedly adds more heat to global warming.
So, it was a breath of fresh air when Prince Charles made an impassioned and reasoned speech…
Greta Thunberg was there, arriving by train not private jet!
What was quietly interesting, was the UK news reported Prince Charles met Greta. How the world is changing – in years gone by it would have been Greta meets Prince Charles!
I am pleased to say there are a growing number of companies standing up and doing something. Computacenter a large and highly respected company has installed solar panels over their facility and are expecting to generate vast amounts of green energy every year. Microsoft has set its own targets to become carbon negative in 10 years. And just today Tesco – our largest national grocery chain announced that it is ending plastic wrap for multi-wrap tins. Removing 350 tons of plastic waste per year, a small step – yes, but it’s all gaining momentum.
And environmental group Greenpeace welcomed the decision to get rid of what it called “pointless plastic”.
At Silver Fox, we have been ahead of the pack – we see our commitment to the environment as a critical part of our “corporate responsibility”. We have been working to reduce our carbon footprint, not for a year but as far back as 2012, when we installed solar panels. At this time, 30,000 kW of electricity has been amassed from the sky. For the first time, we became carbon neutral in 2018 but in 2019, we recognised the need to further offset our carbon emissions and through the Woodland Trust, have planted trees, we will continue to do this in the future.
Now, in 2020 we are looking to become carbon negative!
Additionally, we are working to reduce our plastic waste. It’s not enough to say that once it leaves our factory, it’s not our problem. It very much is! So, we are changing all our label release liners to paper. For many years 98% of our packaging boxes and reels for our thermal range have been made from bio-degradable card. Now we are looking to make that 100%. We will also be using recycled shredded paper when packing orders.
It is not about corporate speak. At Silver Fox, we genuinely believe that every company should take these responsibilities seriously. Since 2018, the company has also regularly donated to WaterAid to improve the lives of those in poorer countries.
That’s not to say that we agree with everything. When the process of producing electric cars is properly evaluated, we are not convinced that this is the way to go. However, our current company cars have low emission engines.
Silver Fox looks forward to a happy effective and productive environmental future!
