Fox-in-a-Box cable label printer system printing durable cable labels and wire markers for engineering projects

One system for every cable label type

Print over 200 label variations with one software, one printer and one ribbon. Six cable and wire label types, one set of tools.

Printed wrap-around self-laminating cable labels produced by the Fox-in-a-Box cable label printer

Wrap-around self-laminating labels

Print clear, self-laminating labels that wrap around cables with a protective tail over the printed area.

Typical use Data cables, comms rooms, network cabinets, commercial buildings.
Heat shrink cable markers printed with wire identification numbers using the Fox-in-a-Box label printer

Heat shrink markers

Print markers that shrink tightly onto wires and cables for secure, long-lasting identification.

Typical use Panel building, E&I wiring, power distribution, control cables.
Non-shrink cable markers printed on the Fox-in-a-Box system for panel wiring identification

Non-shrink markers

Print durable cable markers that grip without heat. Ideal where heat shrink is impractical.

Typical use Retrofit projects, maintenance, live environments, panel wiring.
Tie-on cable identification labels printed using the Fox-in-a-Box thermal transfer printer

Tie-on cable labels

Print labels that attach with cable ties for larger cables, bundles and demanding environments.

Typical use Power cables, oil and gas, mass transit, large cable bundles.
Fibre optic flag labels printed on the Fox-in-a-Box system for telecoms cable identification

Fibre optic flag labels

Print flag-style labels for small-diameter fibre optic cables where standard labels are too bulky.

Typical use Telecoms, FTTx, data centres, fibre patching.
Printed 2-part slide-in cable markers produced on the Fox-in-a-Box system, slotted into carrier profiles on wires

2-part slide-in markers

Print marker cards that slide into a carrier profile on the cable, holding the printed identification securely in place.

Typical use Panel wiring, control cables, terminal blocks, identification that may need updating.

One software. One printer. One ribbon. Over 200 label types.

Fox-in-a-Box® handles wrap-around, heat shrink, non-shrink, tie-on, fibre flag and 2-part slide-in labels with a single system. No need for multiple printers, ribbons or software packages.

From data to printed labels in five steps

A repeatable workflow built for engineering project pace.

  1. Step 01

    Import your data

Import cable schedules, port lists or test data from spreadsheets. No manual re-entry.

  2. Step 02

    Design your labels

Use Labacus Innovator® to choose label type, layout and print data. Templates available for common formats.

  3. Step 03

    Print

Print directly to the Fox-in-a-Box® thermal transfer printer. One ribbon covers the core label range.

  4. Step 04

    Apply

Print and apply labels on site, without waiting on external label orders.

  5. Step 05

    Hand over

Deliver consistent, professional identification for commissioning, handover and maintenance documentation.

Why engineers are printing cable labels on site

  1. Too much time on individual markers

Creating cable labels one at a time, whether by hand or with a basic label maker, is slow and inconsistent. On large projects, the time cost adds up across every cable run, panel and rack.

  2. Multiple printers, ribbons and systems

Some teams use different printers or methods for different label types. One for heat shrink, another for wrap-around, a third for asset labels. That means multiple supplies, multiple software packages and multiple points of failure.

  3. Waiting for external suppliers

Outsourcing labels can mean lead times, minimum orders and no ability to print replacements on site. When a cable schedule changes mid-project, the team is stuck waiting.

  4. Inconsistent labelling across projects

Different engineers, different sites, different methods. Without a repeatable system, cable identification varies from project to project. That inconsistency affects commissioning, handover and long-term maintenance.

  5. Replacement labels are a headache

After handover, labels get damaged, removed or need updating. Without an on-site system, every replacement means a new order, a new lead time and a new cost.

Compare the three approaches

Method Best for Limitation
Manual markers Small one-off jobs Slow and inconsistent at scale
Outsourced labels Fixed label lists with long lead times Waiting time, less flexibility, no on-site replacements
Fox-in-a-Box® Repeatable project labelling across multiple label types Requires system setup and training (free training included)

Common questions about printing cable labels on site

Can one printer create different cable label types?

Yes. The Fox-in-a-Box® system prints over 200 label variations from one printer using a single ribbon type. Wrap-around, heat shrink, non-shrink, tie-on, fibre flag and patch panel labels are all supported by the same hardware.

Can I import data from spreadsheets or testers?

Yes. Labacus Innovator® imports cable schedules and data from Excel spreadsheets and CSV files. Templates handle common formats used by test equipment and cable schedules, including sequential numbering and barcode generation.

Which labels can I print with the system?

Over 200 label variations including wrap-around cable labels, heat shrink wire markers, non-shrink markers, tie-on labels, fibre flag labels and patch panel labels. The full label range is available on request - the Silver Fox® team can recommend the right substrate for your environment.

Do you offer setup support and training?

Yes. Free training, free remote support and free lifetime software updates are included with the Fox-in-a-Box® system. UK-based support is available for setup, troubleshooting and ongoing technical questions.

How does Fox-in-a-Box® compare to using manual markers?

Manual markers (hand-written tags, slip-on letters) work for very small jobs but slow down as label counts grow. Fox-in-a-Box® produces consistent, machine-printed labels from imported data, reducing setup time and labelling errors across larger projects.

Can I print replacement labels on site?

Yes. Print as many or as few as needed, when needed. Replacement labels for damaged or updated cables can be printed on demand, without waiting for external supply or reissue of a full label run.
