Overview

What is Multicomp Pro® cable labelling software?

For engineers who need professional cable and equipment labels but do not want to invest in dedicated labelling hardware, Multicomp Pro® offers a practical alternative. The software - developed by Silver Fox® specifically for Farnell, Newark, and element14 - lets you design and print a wide range of label types directly from your PC using any standard office laser printer.

The system is built around a simple principle: the same expertise Silver Fox® applies to its own labelling solutions, delivered through a platform that Farnell customers worldwide can access and use straight away. There is no complex installation process, no proprietary printer to source, and no steep learning curve.

Three software levels - Lite, Advanced, and Professional - allow teams to start at the right point for their current workload and upgrade as demands grow. All levels come with free training, free support, and lifetime feature updates as standard.

2. Software Levels

Lite, Advanced, and Professional: which level is right for you?

Multicomp Pro® is structured so that users can begin with the tools they need today and unlock greater functionality when their projects demand it. Each level builds directly on the one before, so there is no duplication of effort if you choose to upgrade.

Lite - get started at no charge

The Lite level is available at no charge and covers the core tasks most labelling projects require. Once registered, users can cut and paste content directly from spreadsheets into the software, apply sequential numbering and lettering, and use the automatic "Size to Fit" font function to ensure text is always legible regardless of label dimensions. Context-sensitive help and video guidance are built into the interface, and the software updates automatically via the web. For straightforward projects with standard labelling requirements, Lite provides a capable and accessible starting point.

Lite level features at a glance

  • Cut and paste directly from spreadsheets
  • Sequential numbers and letters
  • Automatic "Size to Fit" font function
  • Seamless switching between label types
  • Context-sensitive help and tutorial videos
  • Automatic software updates via the web

Advanced - power tools for larger projects

The Advanced level is suited to projects where label schedules are more complex and where efficiency in generating large volumes of labels matters. CSV import with single or multiple column support allows cable schedules and wire lists to be brought in from existing project documentation, eliminating repetitive manual entry. Users gain access to multiple line and multiple column label options, custom font types and sizes, and the ability to manage multiple cable builds within a single job file.

A notable feature for structured cabling and data centre work is ANSI/TIA-606-B numbering capability, which allows labels to be produced in compliance with the administration standard for telecommunications infrastructure. Advanced also introduces colour options including resistor colour coding, and enables printing on both sides of fibre flag labels - useful for fibre optic identification where space is at a premium.

Advanced is also the entry point for cable test data integration, with support for both Fluke Networks® LinkWare™ Live and AEM Networks test management platforms - covered in more detail in the next section.

Import cable test results from Fluke Networks® LinkWare™ Live directly into Multicomp Pro® at Advanced level, eliminating manual re-entry of test data into label schedules.

Import test data from AEM Networks cable certification platforms into Multicomp Pro® at Advanced level, providing an alternative integration path for AEM users.

Professional - the full suite for teams

Professional unlocks the complete Multicomp Pro® feature set. The full spreadsheet view allows .xls and .xlsx files to be imported, viewed, and manipulated directly within the software - including re-arranging cell contents, choosing the output order of spreadsheet columns, and merging columns. This makes managing large, complex label schedules considerably more efficient than working from CSV exports alone.

A particularly practical feature for installation work is the ability to print different quantities of each cable label from a single job. Rather than manually repeating entries for cables that require multiple labels at each end, users can specify the exact quantity per cable ID and the software handles the print run accordingly. QR codes, barcodes, and Data Matrix codes can all be generated and printed, making the system suitable for asset tracking and traceability applications. Graphics and logos can also be imported and rotated, supporting projects where corporate symbols or hazard graphics need to appear on labels.

For teams working across multiple sites, Professional includes issue control: jobs can be prepared and then exported as locked files for use at different locations, ensuring label content cannot be altered once approved.

Professional also extends the Fluke Networks® LinkWare™ Live integration introduced at Advanced level, providing additional functionality for managing and mapping test data across larger, multi-phase cabling projects.

3. Integration

Cable test data integration: eliminating manual data entry

One of the most time-consuming aspects of cable labelling on data cabling and structured cabling projects is keeping label data in sync with cable test results. When test data lives in one system and label content is managed in another, the risk of discrepancies - and the time spent cross-referencing and correcting them - adds up quickly.

The Advanced and Professional levels of Multicomp Pro® address this directly through their integration with Fluke Networks® LinkWare™ Live and AEM Networks test management platforms. Cable test results can be downloaded and imported straight into the software, so label content is drawn directly from verified test data rather than being re-keyed from a report or schedule. This removes a common source of error at the labelling stage and helps ensure that what is printed on the label accurately reflects how each cable has been identified and tested.

For contractors working on structured cabling installations where both cable testing and certification are required, this connection between test data and label production represents a meaningful efficiency gain - particularly when re-labelling is needed following design changes late in a project.

Cable test data integration: key benefits

  • Download cable test data from Fluke Networks® LinkWare™ Live or AEM Networks directly into Multicomp Pro®
  • Eliminate manual re-entry of test results into label software
  • Reduce labelling errors caused by transcription or out-of-date schedules
  • Available on Advanced and Professional levels
